One simply can not reside in Costa Blanca, Spain, and get around Guadalest. Guadalest is a must see. If you are so callous that you opt out Guadalest, then you will have missed out. Simple as that.
Guadalest’ full name is El Castell de Guadalest, it is a Valencian town and municipality, and is located in a mountainous area of the comarca of Marina Baixa. It is in the province of Alicante. If you want to read up on the history of Guadalest, you can do so here.
Actually I read somewhere that Guadalest is the 3rd most visited touristsite in Spain, only surpassed by Madrid and Barcelona. And that is where the the similie ends. Unlike those big cities, Guadalest only has a population of about 200. Still, it has alot of interesting places to visit:
- Castle of L’Alcazaiba, Muslim-built in the 11th century.
- Castle of the King
- Tower-crag of Alcalà
- Baroque Catholic church of Mare de Déu de l’Assumpció (built 1740-1753)
- The jail with a dungeon, built in the 12th century.
- No less then 9 museums (Antonio Marco, Ethnological, Historical Motorcycle, Micro-Gigantic, Miniature, Ribera Girona, Salt & Pepper Shaker, Torture instruments and Town Museum)
Never mind the museums, the scenery and the small brick town is absolutely stunning! I will let the photos do the rest of the talking:
wow..wonderful place 😀
