Have you ever held your hands out, filled with funky-looking coins, to a cashier – and hoped they would help you out by taking what they need as payment for your bottle of cold water?

Have you ever just pointed at an item in a menu, that you can’t read, and hoped that you ordered something good?

Have you ever marked out a convenience store as your waypoint, so that on your return you know when to turn right – only to discover that that exact chain has stores on very friggin’ corner in the city you so bravely try to navigate?

Have you ever mimed diarrhea in a pharmacy, hoping they would understand you, and give you medicine to stop it?

Have you ever said to yourself, stop making excuses why you can’t – because you know damn well that you can?

I have, and this blog is fragments of my life.

Some serious.

Some sad.

Some interesting.

Some tasty.

But most of all, some funny.

      1. No need to thank for that my friend…I only follow blogs I like the look of and yours fits so unlucky I’m here now 😁 I post sporadically because I’m editing a book at present and writing takes time away from social media…priorities and all that…which sucks as the people I’ve met here are brilliant. Love to see more of you though so don’t hang shy of commenting and if it’s on some of my writing suggestions and feedback are always very welcome…good or bad…as long as the bad has the reason why….can’t fix it otherwise 😇 Great to meet you !!

  4. My pleasure! but I have cancer and I think that you’re quite lucky to visit the world before you die. I don’t have much time you see and I’m only 13.
I love your blog already! Keep going! Good job

  7. This post made me crack up! Luckily I’ve never had to pantomime diarrhea, but I understand how important it is to come up with creative solutions when you’re in the midst of traveling! It can be frustrating at times, but mainly it’s hilarious and even the smallest victories make you so proud of yourself!
Your blog looks great, I can’t wait to have a look around. 😀

  8. I’m looking forward to reading more of your blog. When I read your “about page” and saw the story about miming at the pharmacy, I knew I had to follow you. It took me back to the Tokyo airport where I bravely took medicine with a picture of a stomach drawn on it and prayed that the 3 fingers the guy held up were indicative of how many to take! 🙂

  10. Hi, Olive Ole,

I just saw that you subscribed to my blog, https://betterthanthealternative.wordpress.com/. Thanks for your interest. Just wanted to let you know, however, that I haven’t been spending much time on that blog. Instead, I have a new one, https://sandrayeaman.com/. I post there much more often.

I’m also a member of Sons of Norway and House of Norway in San Diego. Hopefully, I’ll soon be in a Norwegian language class so I may even be able to understand the unfamiliar words on your blog.

    All the best.

    1. Hi and thanks for the link to the new and active blog! Looking forward to reading more from you.

How cool that you are going to learn Norwegian! If you need any help, just gimme a shout – my Norwegian is very good.

I went to a couple meetings at Daughters of Norway in Nevada, oh my goodness was that a hoot and a half! They all wanted to know if we eat lutefisk all the time in Norway, and they didn’t believe me when I told them that “Uff da” is not a swear word. Oooo good times! Good memories!
